  1. Lecture for Tonight’s Meeting: Tonight’s lecture was on Management of Hypothyroidism. Speaker with Dr. Deebeane Tavani, D.O., PhD; Chief, Division of Endocrinology at Lankenau Hospital. Sponsor was Abbvie. Rep was Monica Cartwright
  1. Legislative Updates and Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (PCNP) (Cheryl Schlamb):
  1. Cheryl Schlamb updated PCNP’s strategic planning. Lisa Adams spoke about the upcoming Pennsylvania House Professional Licensure Committee on October 22nd.
  2. Full Practice Authority Campaign Update: Lisa Adams discussed Full Practice Authority moving along. She discussed the upcoming hearing in the PA House Professional Licensure Committee taking place on October 22nd at 10 am at the State Capitol Building East Wing Room 60. PCNP is requesting APRN’s to attend and be in the audience. We are in good position to pass in the Senate with no problems. The focus is now on the House. Keep Writing Letters and discuss with your House Reps!!!!

  1. Biannual Newsletter is completed.
  2. November 5th to Nov. 7th is PCNP’s annual Conference. This year it will be held in Lancaster, PA at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square & Lancaster Convention Center. For further details, go onto the PCNP website: .
  1. PAC Fund (Teresa Holman):
    1. We need to boost funds due to recent legislative activities. Tonights 50/50 will be splint with the winner and the PAC fund. PCNP has needed the PAC Fund to pay lobbyists and others to help with the Full Practice Authority Campaign. Please donate money to the PAC Fund to help continue the funding for these very important lobbying activities.
    2. Basket Raffle funds – 100% will go to PAC for the rest of the year.
  2. Medical Lectures Update and Upcoming Meetings (Mary Keirsey):
    1. Thank you to Amanda Laskoskie and Penny Vanderbeek!!!!! Out two new medical lecture coordinators.
    2. Mary has been doing this position for ChesMont for a long time and is grateful to have the help!!!!
    3. Mary has speakers scheduled until the end of this year
  3. Membership Updates (Cheryl Wieczorek):
    1. Please make sure that your memberships are up-to-date. Cheryl Wieczorek was not in attendance tonight. Please check the PCNP website at for your membership status and renewal date. Please also confirm the correct email address as well. Memberships are only ONLINE for nurse practitioner members. We now have official membership cards from PCNP.
    2. Physician Assistants (PAs) are not online for PCNP and will need to fill-out membership forms each year. PAs will need to see Cheryl Wieczorek (email: ) for new registration forms to renew your membership and pay annual ChesMont dues. Cheryl Wieczorek has temporarily taken over this role for PAs since Lisa Ferguson will no longer be able to be the Physician Assistant Representative. We will need a PA to volunteer for the position of Physician Assistant Representative. Please consider volunteering for this position.
  4. Attendance and Meeting Logistics (Emmie Amerine):
    1. All members and guests must sign-in on both sheets:
      1. ChesMont sign-in sheet
      2. Sponsor’s sign-in sheet.
    2. RSVPs are MANDATORY!! You must RSVP by the deadline indicated on the monthly invitation or you will not be able to attend the meeting. If you RSVP’d your attendance to a meeting but later find that you are unable to attend, please cancel your RSVP as indicated on the invitation or contact the ChesMont Secretary.
    3. Guests are welcome, and will be allowed as we have room. Guests or their host must RSVP to the meeting. When you RSVP for your guest, please provide their name and professional status (NP, PA, or student).
  5. Basket Raffle (Cynthia MacDonald):
    1. Tonight’s raffle basket is 50/50.
  6. Physician Assistant Updates/Announcements (Lisa Ferguson):
    1. Lisa Ferguson was not able to attend tonight’s meeting and will no longer be able to attend ChesMont meetings due to new commitments on Wednesday evenings. Lisa is looking for a replacement as PA Representative ASAP.
  7. ChesMont Positions Available:
    1. Physician Assistant Representative for ChesMont – Lisa Ferguson will no longer be able to continue with this position due to a new commitment on Wed. evenings.
    2. Continuing Education Chairperson – this is a new position for ChesMont. Since we cannot provide CE during our meetings, this new position will provide us with updates at each meeting about local CE opportunities and conferences each month. Please consider volunteering for this position.
    3. Co-Presidents: Sue Mattei and Barbara LaVerghetta welcome any members to help with coordinating and running ChesMont activities!
  8. Job Opportunities:
    1. Palliative Care positions: Cynthia Wagner provided information about NP job openings in Palliative Care at Main Line Health for FT, PT, or Per Diem positions. They need positions filled in all Main Line Health sites (Bryn Mawr, Paoli, Riddle, and Lankenau Hospitals). Cynthia is actively growing the Palliative Program and is always looking for additional help. If you have any questions about these positions, contact Cynthia Wagner at email below.     3. Volunteer Position: St. Agnes Nurse’s Center in West Chester, PA is looking for volunteers on Saturday mornings 10am to 12noon and Wednesday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm. Contact Terry Berkman at email address: or phone #484-883-6945.
    4. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – Per Diem Position: Christine Sloan provided us with information about a Per Diem position at the Renfrew Center of Philadelphia, PA for an opening for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. If interested, ask for Dr. Hahn at 215-482-5353. Responsibilities include: performing psychiatric evaluations; providing crisis intervention, ongoing psychopharmacological management; conduction peer reviews with managed care companies; and working within a multidisciplinary treatment team. Providing coverage for Psychiatric services. Requirements: Must have a current CRNP license in PA with a specialization in Psychiatry. Previous experience working with patients with eating disorders and/or addictions is preferred. Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
