Meeting Minutes for Wed. September 17, 2014, 6:00pm to 8:00pm

  1. Lecture for Tonight’s Meeting: Tonight’s lecture was “Explore an Option for the Treatment of Major Depression Disorder.” The speaker was Dr. Barry Nelson, MD. The Sponsor for tonight was Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals Services, LLC. Tonight’s presentation was not approved for Contact Hours.
  1. Membership Updates (Cheryl Wieczorek): Cheryl was not present at tonight’s meeting. Sue Mattei explained the importance of making sure that everyone is up-to-date with their PCNP membership. This is required in order to be able to receive an invitation for the meetings and to be able to attend. Nurse Practitioner registration for membership is done only online through website www.pacnp.org. All NP members must be up-to-date with their PCNP memberships or they will no longer receive invitations to the monthly meetings. There are now official membership cards available from PCNP. Physician Assistants also need to keep current with their membership renewals in order to continue receiving monthly invitations to meetings. PAs register with Lisa Ferguson on a paper registration form annually to update your dues with a New Membership form or Renewal Form. You will also need to update your payment of dues each year with your membership renewal. You can contact Lisa Ferguson at laferguson11@gmail.com. Please make sure you have a current email address listed on the PCNP site or with Lisa Ferguson (for PAs). The emails for invitations each month are derived from the current PCNP list online and current PA list from Lisa Ferguson.
  2. Meeting Logistics (Emmie Amerine): Emmie was not present at the meeting. Sue Mattei explained that Sign-in is necessary for EVERYONE! RSVPs are MANDATORY! To RSVP for the meetings, contact ChesMont Secretary, Denise Felsenstein through email at Chesmont-NPPA@comcast.net . Guests are welcome and will be allowed as long as we have room. If you would like to bring a guest, you need to provide their name and title when you RSVP. Our sponsors need this information for their records. Guests must register with member and sign-in upon attending meeting. If you or your guest must cancel, please send-in your cancellation by email to Denise at Chesmont-NPPA@comcast.net as soon as you are aware that you are unable to attend. This provides members who are on the waiting list with an opportunity to attend the meeting.
  3. Basket Raffle (Cynthia MacDonald): Tonight’s basket was donated by Linda Kohn and Karen Wood. The October meeting basket donors will be Debbie Buck and Emmie Amerine.
  4. PCNP Updates (Cheryl Schlamb): Cheryl was not able to attend the meeting tonight.

A) The 12th Annual PCNP Conference will be held November 6-8 at the Wyndam Grand in Pittsburgh, PA. The registration was still open. For more information, go to the PCNP website at: www.pacnp.org .

B) MMP (Media Mgmt Partners) Board of Governance Retreat-for Executive Board Members only – Sat. Sept. 27 from 10am to 4pm in York PA. The focus is on House Bill #1063.

Senate Bill 1063 information:

  • It would bring PA up to date with 17 other states and DC by removing an outdated mandate that requires NPs to enter into formal legal agreements with physicians in order to practice.
  • It allows NPs to operate independent businesses.
  • It expands access to primary health care across Pennsylvania.
  • It gives hospitals and healthcare providers more control over medical staff membership, clinical privileges, and who can refer patients to a specialist.
  • It allows insurers and other third party payors to reimburse NPs directly for their services as a primary care provider.
  1. Physician Assistant Updates/Announcements (Lisa Ferguson): Lisa Ferguson provided an update on PA memberships and an updated Physician Assistant Membership List. Lisa requested that active PA members emails get updated so they can receive an invitation to the ChesMont monthly meetings.
  2. Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held on Wed, Oct. 15th at the Kimberton Inn. We have a sponsor for the meeting.
  3. RSVP to Meetings: Members need to RSVP to meetings in order to attend. Send RSVPs to Denise at ChesMont-NPPA@comcast.net .
  4. Other New business, Job postings, or Announcements:
    1. 4th Annual Immunization Education Program (by Chester County Immunization Coalition): Will be held on Sept. 18, 2014 at 6:30pm at Downingtown Country Club. Cost is $25 which includes dinner. For more information, contact msteiner@chesco.org.
    2. NP Job Opening at Aria of Bucks County: Kim Churach announced that Aria of Bucks County needs an NP in Primary Care at their Torresdale Campus.
