Meeting Minutes for Wed. July 15, 2015, 6:00pm to 8:00pm

  1. Lecture for Tonight’s Meeting: Tonight’s lecture was “Paradigm in the Treatment of DVT and PE” by speaker Raymond J. Kovalski, MD from PMA Medical Specialists. The Sponsor tonight was Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Sean Tucker was the pharmacologic representative of Janssen who sponsored the meeting. Janssen will be sponsoring another meeting for ChesMont in January 2016 with the topic of endocrinology.
  1. Legislative Updates and Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (PCNP) (Cheryl Schlamb):
  1. Cheryl Schlamb provided us with an update on the PCNP legislative issues.
  2. Duke Report: law students regarding NPs.
  3. Full-Practice Authority Committee: Lisa Adams provided an update on this topic. Maryland just received full-practice authority for NPs a couple of months ago! The next conference call will be next week.
  4. November 5-7, 2015 is PCNP’s annual conference. This year it will take place in Lancaster, PA. This year it will be held at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square & Lancaster Convention Center. For further details, go onto the PCNP website: http://www.pacnp.org/ .
  5. July 25th is the PCNP Board Meeting. Cheryl will be attending. The Board will be working on Strategic Planning and intend to be more transparent. They will be reviewing policies and procedures. A Board member survey was done. They will also discuss increasing the relationship of PCNP with NP students and faculty members.
  6. Member survey about why NPs don’t join PCNP. Results will be coming for the next meeting.
  1. PAC Fund (Teresa Holman):
    1. We need to boost funds due to recent legislative activities. PCNP has needed the PAC Fund to pay lobbyists and others to help with the Full Practice Authority Campaign. Please donate money to the PAC Fund to help continue the funding for these very important lobbying activities.
    2. We will be having a donation drive so please bring checkbooks to contribute.
    3. Basket Raffle funds – 100% will go to PAC for the rest of the year. ChesMont will make a one-time donation next month (basket raffle match).
  2. Medical Lectures Update and Upcoming Meetings (Mary Keirsey):
    1. 2 members have volunteered to help Mary Kiersey with coordinating sponsors and lectures. Thank you to Amanda Laskoskie & Penny Vanderbeek!!
    2. Mary, Amanda & Penny are all working on getting sponsors. So far January and April 2016 are already booked!
  3. Membership Updates (Cheryl Wieczorek):
    1. Please make sure that your memberships are up-to-date. Check the PCNP website at www.pacnp.org for your membership status and renewal date.
    2. We will need a PA to volunteer for the position of Physician Assistant Representative. Please consider volunteering for this position.
  4. Attendance and Meeting Logistics (Emmie Amerine):
    1. Everyone is doing a great job with signing-in for meetings!! Thank you!!
    2. All members and guests must sign-in on both sheets:
      1. ChesMont sign-in sheet
      2. Sponsor’s sign-in sheet.
    3. RSVPs are MANDATORY!! You must RSVP by the deadline indicated on the monthly invitation or you will not be able to attend the meeting. If you RSVPed your attendance to a meeting but later find that you are unable to attend, please cancel your RSVP as indicated on the invitation or contact the ChesMont Secretary.
    4. Guests are welcome, and will be allowed as we have room. Guests or their host must RSVP to the meeting. When you RSVP for your guest, please provide their name and professional status (NP, PA, or student).
  5. Basket Raffle (Cynthia MacDonald): Geri Cole provided basket raffle tonight.
    1. Tonight we had $244 collected from the basket raffle.
    2. Tonight’s raffle basket is $100 dinner at the Kimberton Inn.
    3. Thank you to Karen Gorgonzola for providing last month’s basket!
    4. Sept 2015 basket will be donated by Mary Keirsey, Amanda, Emmie and Deb. T
  6. Physician Assistant Updates/Announcements (Lisa Ferguson):
    1. We need someone to volunteer to take Lisa Ferguson’s position as Membership Chair for ChesMont PAs. She has new commitments on Wednesday nights and will no longer be able to attend ChesMont meetings. We have appreciated all of her hard work while in this position.
  7. ChesMont Positions Available:
    1. Physician Assistant Representative for ChesMont – Lisa Ferguson will no longer be able to continue with this position due to a new commitment on Wed. evenings.
    2. Continuing Education Chairperson: This is a new position. We need a member to volunteer to research and report of any local or online CEU opportunities.
    3. Co-Presidents: Sue Mattei and Barb LaVerghetta welcome any member who might want to coordinate and run all activities for ChesMont!
    4. Secretary of ChesMont – Lisa Adams has volunteered to be ChesMont’s new Secretary. She will be starting this new role by September, 2015. Denise Felsenstein will be starting her DNP program in September and will be meeting with Lisa in August to transition the Secretary position to Lisa. Sue Mattei and Barb LaVerghetta thanked Denise for her dedication to the Secretary role over the past few years.
  8. Job Opportunities:
    1. Palliative Care positions: Cynthia Wagner provided information about NP job openings in Palliative Care at Main Line Health for FT, PT, or Per Diem positions. They need positions filled in all Main Line Health sites (Bryn Mawr, Paoli, Riddle, and Lankenau Hospitals). If you have any questions about these positions, contact Cynthia Wagner at email below.     2. Rheumatology and Pain Management positions for PMA Specialists: NP or PA needed for 32-40 hours per week specializing in Rheumatology. If interested, contact Katie Weand at 610-933-8000 at PMA Medical Specialists. Position information provided by ChesMont member, Ernneta McKim.
    3. Pediatric NP needed for Berks Pediatrics: Position information provided by Barb Kolle. If interested contact Berks Pediatrics 610-547-8813.
  9. Basket Donations for November PCNP conference: Kim Churach recommended that members either donate money or items for a Basket that ChesMont will donate for raffle. The basket should value approx. $150-$200. We can also all go out to our communities to request donations for tax write-offs. Kim will provide us with more information in September.
  10. Presentation Tonight: Thank you to speaker Mahmoud Ghaderi, MD for his lecture about “Aerospan and Dymista-ENT Updates.” We enjoyed the lecture. It was very informative and interesting! Thanks to Meda’s representative Larry Wyzykowski (email: lawrence.wyzykowski@meda.us ) for sponsoring our meeting tonight!
  11. Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held on Wed, Sept. 16th at 6:00pm at the Kimberton Inn. There will be NO MEETING in August!
